Neither the reputation of one of the most successful coaches in the world, nor the high-profile victories and titles won with other national teams and clubs, nor, in the end, the withdrawal of our team from the deep waters of the third ten of the world ranking into its top six and winning bronze medals with it at the European Championship, did not save the Dutch specialist from the general trend of coaching the fate of today: lost — fired.

But that is football, which in Russia today is more than a sport. Among the entire leadership of the Russian Football Union, only 85-year-old Nikita Simonyan is directly related to football. The rest, including RFU President Sergey Fursenko, are either professional managers, or came from big business and studied decision-making technologies there. It is all the more surprising that these decisions practically do not differ from those made in other federations led by professionals...

It's just that in their view, not a single link fits into the logical chain linking the invested amount with the final success, except for these two. As in a meat grinder — how much meat I put at the entrance, so much minced meat should be at the exit. Debit-credit. As in their more familiar business...

One can, of course, say that big money and the ever-increasing "businessification" of sports are to blame for everything. However, if you look deeper, you come to an unexpected conclusion: modern sports — and above all, football and hockey — are killing its colossally increased social significance in recent years. Sports today are more than sports — and not only in Russia. First of all, this is politics. And that is why such a lot of money is "spinning" in it now.
